Some owners of lodgings in Eldoret have turned their premises into brothels for daytime prostitution to defeat the Covid-19 restrictions.

Uasin Gishu county commissioner Abdirisak Jaldesa has warned owners renting out their premises for such activities that they risk arrest and arraignment for undermining efforts by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Jaldesa told the press that some men were traveling from villages to engage in sex with prostitutes who hire rooms in guest houses.

“There is a real danger of spreading coronavirus during such escapades because social distance is not observed. If, unfortunately, the men get infected they will take the disease back to their families in the villages, which is totally irresponsible,” he said.

He said his officers have been raiding some of the lodges after being tipped off by members of the community.

Jaldesa appealed to the residents of Uasin Gishu to continue observing all the protocols issued by the Ministry of Health to combat the pandemic.

“I urge our residents not to relent, considering that we have visitors and truckers traversing the county including trucks carrying goods to neighbouring states. Please continue to put on face masks properly in public places, wash your hands or sanitise regularly as well as maintain social distance,” the administrator said.
