MPs from Nyamira have said they will fight hard to ensure resources are shared equitably so "less developed" counties can get more funds.
Speaking in Nyamira on Tuesday, West Mugirango's Vincent Kemosi and Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi said funds should be shared equitably as all counties have a right to the national coffers.
“We will fight up and down to ensure every county benefits equally from the national government, than the way others think that some counties will benefit with huge amounts of money as others suffer,” Kemosi said.
He said "developed counties" should get less share so underdeveloped counties can be elevated economically.
“Other counties are developed that if you visit them, you will be shocked by their developed hospitals, schools, among other facilities, but still, they are getting additional resources, which we also demand. If that is not going to happen, we will have to go to court and demand equity in revenue allocation in our counties,” Kemosi said.
Momanyi shared similar sentiments, urging the government to allocate more funds to needy counties, rather than concentrating on the developed counties.
“Our two counties Kisii and Nyamira need to be funded more so that we can get to the level of other counties. The issue of saying that monies should be deducted from our counties should be opposed,” she said.
