Parents in Nyamira are having a difficult time controlling their children who are out of school thanks to coronavirus outbreak.

Teenagers are now engaging in early sexual activities while others have got into marriage, which experts say will cost parents at the end of the day.

The Star has established that in Nyamira, school-going children are abusing drugs and substances and others have got into early marriages.

Health expert Ombati Mokua warns that with five months remaining to the possible reopening of schools in January, parents are being depressed by the status of their children.

“If parents are not going to be careful with their children, our future generation is completely finished at this point. We need to have measures in place to curb the unwanted behaviors in our children. Otherwise, we will live to regret as to why we never performed our duties as parents,” Ombati said.

He further said girls are likely to be in more danger as they are faced with challenges like marriage, pregnancy and possible contraction of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/ Aids.

“It is now clear that with the pandemic, our girls will have challenges but we call upon the parents to take care of their children as we wait for the possible reopening of schools next year,” he noted.

Residents are calling upon administrators and security agencies to help parents contain the children before things get out of hand.

“We are calling upon the county commissioner and security agencies to come to our rescue as parents, we are really suffering because we cannot contain our children,” parent Mary Mogiti said.
