Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has dismissed as false and unfounded grounds advanced by the MCAs in her impeachment.

Speaking before the senate Committee prosecuting her ouster on Tuesday, Waiguru said the allegations are mere malice and innuendos meant to embarrass her and destabilise the county operations.

"These MCAs are on a fishing expedition, their superficial evidence is unintelligible," she said.

"What is before you is false, unfounded and fallacious. Impeachment should not be based on malice, innuendos and rumours. This process is time-wasting and its effect will linger for some time."

The embattled governor insisted the claims are mischievous, bias, hearsay and propaganda.

Waiguru accused the MCAs of stalling the county operations by failing to pass crucial items, including the budget.

"My officers are summoned daily and threatened with sanctions if they fail to appear. My two CECs and county secretary have been given a notice of no confidence," she said.

Waiguru claimed the MCAs were out to ruin her reputation as the governor and appealed to the Senate to deal with the 'problem.'

"Without rehearsing that presentation, I must say that the grounds that formed the basis of my impeachment and which this Committee is now asked to superintend are an affront to the very serious process that the Constitution and the law have prescribed for the removal of a Governor from office."

" The grounds relate to minor administrative issues that would easily have been clarified by a routine inquiry. The process should involve the people. That never occurred. No formal public participation took place. The notice to appear was brought at 10 am when the motion was being debated."

The embattled governor said the impeachment was a malpractice by the county assembly adding that he integrity of counties should be restored.

"Sleeping in the assembly brings them and devolution to disrepute and must be discouraged," she said.

The governor said that if it is found that the allegations levelled against her were malicious, then the Senate should declare the MCAs have abused their office.

"Should failure to keep the wheels of MCAs oiled earn a governor an impeachment? This is abuse of office by the MCAs and they are boasting that they have lined up more impeachments if this one fails. May justice be our shield and defender," she said.
