One killed after tree falls on house in Baringo

One person died and two others were injured after a tree fell on a house in Kabarnet town, Baringo Central subcounty, on Monday evening.

Emmanuel Rotich, 24, died from his injuries while being rushed to the Baringo County Referral Hospital. He was a student at Mt Kenya University.

The heath facility administrator Michael Rotich said Francis Korir and Shedrack Tuitoek aged 23 and 26, respectively, were treated and discharged. They sustained hand and leg injuries.

 
 

The three were sheltering from the rain in the timber-walled structure when tragedy struck.  The rental house belongs to Kapropita Women Group.

The tree, locally known as Anwo, fell on the house located adjacent to Emunyar forest, near Kapropita primary and secondary schools.

Baringo Central police commander Francis Gachoki confirmed the incident, saying it was raining heavily at the time.

“The rain was accompanied by strong winds,” Gachoki said.

The body was taken to Kabarnet hospital mortuary.
