Uhuru's refusal to meet Maraga shows failure in leadership - Karua

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has weighed into the ongoing frosty relationship between the Executive and the Judiciary.

Karua has weighed into the matter said the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to turndown Chief Justice David Maraga's appointment is a clear failure in leadership.

On Monday, the CJ addressed the president in public after claiming the President denied to respond to his several attempts to have a meeting together to discuss issues surrounding the Judiciary.

Maraga said that the delay by the president in appointing the 41 judges has led to a backlog of cases currently facing the Judiciary.

As a result, Maraga said the move has crippled its operations.

Karua said the Executive must take leadership and share critical information with the Judicial Service Commission in real-time to facilitate its consideration in appointments.

 

According to Karua, both the Executive and the Judiciary should have consultations without eroding their independence.

Maraga on Monday that the government has failed to honour several court decrees for many years, amounting to about Sh1 billion.

 

The CJ said the government's actions were potentially a recipe for anarchy.

 
 

“The government has willfully neglected to settle dozens of court decrees issued by various courts against the government,” he said.
