Covid-19: Kenya confirms 74 new cases, totaling to 1,962

The new cases were picked from 1,574 samples.

The country has registered new 74 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.

Health CAS Rashid Aman said  the new cases were picked from 1,574 samples that were tested.

The CAS announced that Nairobi had 35 cases while Mombasa had 23.

 

Busia had 6 cases, Kiambu 2, Kwale 2, Kajiado 2, Uasin Gishu 2, Kilifi 1, Taita Taveta 1 as well as laikipia county.

Laikipia becomes the 34 county to register the virus.

The government also announced that 55 new cases were from males while 19 were female.

The government has tested 78,537 samples since march 13 when first case was reported in the country.

The youngest patients is three year-old while the oldest is a 79-year-old.

Aman said the country also had one patient who succumbed to the virus, bringing the number of deaths to 64.

The patient who succumbed to the virus was from Kayole, Nairobi.

 

At the same time, 14 patients have been discharged from various hospitals, bringing the number of recoveries to 474.

the distribution of cases in Nairobi is: Langata 19, Embakasi East and Embakasi Central 3 cases each, Dagoretti North, Embakasi South and Westland had 2 cases each.

Kasarani, Kamukunji, Makadara and Starehe had single cases.

During the announcement, the CAS said that everyone should play a part in reducing the spread which he said might surge if measures will not be adhered to.

"I want to remind you all that the trajectory the disease will take is up to us. We must obey the advisories issued by govt to contain the virus," Aman said.

He added that the government has rolled out several interventions to cushion the vulnerable in the country at this pandemic period.

Being the World No Tobacco Day, the CAS said smokers are more vulnerable to severe forms of the virus.

He said the world loses more than eight million people every year due tobacco.
