The ANC party is not engaged in any talks with DP William Ruto's allies for a possible political alliance ahead of 2022 polls.

Deputy party leader Ayub Savula says the recent meetings between Musalia Mudavadi and some Ruto allies were not aimed at discussing political alliances.

“Our party leader Mudavadi is just meeting with leaders from all sectors. We are focusing on strengthening him as a presidential candidate in 2022,” Savula, who is also MP for Lugari, said.

He said ANC was focused on ensuring Mudavadi is a presidential candidate in 2022, and he was free to prepare himself in the best way possible to vie for the top seat by seeking support from all Kenyans.

Savula said Mudavadi is currently working on uniting Luhyas and that is why he had been meeting some of the leaders including MPs in Western region allied to Ruto.

"The MPs are leaders in their own right and Mudavadi can meet them to discus any issues they wish to consult," said Savula.

Allies of DP Ruto met with Mudavadi amid growing speculation of a possible political alliance between the two.

Mudavadi held a meeting with Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, followed by another meeting with several Ruto allies from Western Kenya led by Sirisia MP John Waluke.

Mudavadi was also set to meet with Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa and his Mumias counterpart Ben Washiali.

Waluke said they discussed national politics, among other issues.

"It was just a lunch hour meeting and as politicians, they must have talked many issues over what is going on in the country," Waluke's aide said.

Mudavadi has been camping at his Mudavadi Centre for a series of meetings with political and religious leaders, besides holding discussions with representatives from other sectors.

The former deputy PM was also scheduled to meet with more leaders from the Rift Valley and Meru region in the coming weeks.

Sources say Mudavadi is keen on uniting Western Kenya through meetings with leaders from the region.
