I'm overwhelmed and grateful, Amoth says after WHO appointment

Acting Director-General of Health Patrick Amoth has welcomed his appointment to the World Health Organisation Board.

Amoth was elected on Friday as WHO executive board Vice-President for a period of two years.

"I am overwhelmed and deeply grateful for your support and kind words on my election as Vice President. My sincere gratitude also to the ministry of health for their confidence in me," he said via Twitter on Saturday.

"I will endeavor to represent Kenya with dignity & honor. Asante!"

Consisting of 34 people, the Executive Board advises the World Health Assembly and enforces its policies and decisions.

Amoth is a medical doctor with a Master of Medicine degree in Obstetrics/Gynaecology from University of Nairobi.

He previously served as Chief Medical Specialist (Obstetrics/Gynecology)/ Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital Nairobi.

From April 2012 to October 2013, he was Chief Medical Specialist Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

On December 2011, he became Senior Medical specialist Obstetrics/Gynaecology Kiambu District Hospital until March 2012.
