Detectives on Thursday questioned five people in a bid to unravel the puzzle of a bank employee who died in a fire in his car under unclear circumstances.
On Tuesday, Terance Korir, 36, burnt to death in his Subaru Impreza at the parking yard of Mai Mahiu court along Katulo Road in Buruburu Phase 5.
Those who have written statements at Buruburu police Station include his wife Ruth Wanjiru and their house help.
A neighbour who was the first to respond was also called to record a statement.
Others are two private security guards manning the main entrance of the courts. They were also among the first responders and participated in putting out the fire.
Buruburu subcounty police commander Adamson Bungei said nobody has been arrested so far and the five were allowed to go home after recording statements.
Sources said police were pursuing the possibility of suicide. A source at Mai Mahiu court said the couple loved each other.
“People are saying maybe it’s the wife who killed the husband, but he used to escort her daily while she left for work,” the source said when the Star visited the estate on Thursday.
The wife works at a nearby hospital. Three plainclothes officers visited the scene again at 10am to piece together leads into the matter.
“We are not yet there but at the end of the day we shall find out,” Bungei said, commenting on the suicide reports while asking members of the public to be patient as detectives dig into the matter.
The car, KBY779M, remained cordoned at the station’s parking area on Thursday.
While its interiors, front and rear window glass were consumed by the fire, the exteriors remained intact.
The incidence has puzzled many, wondering how the man would burn into near ashes without raising an alarm and attempting to escape.
DCI officers are analysing samples taken from the car to trace the last moments before the fire.
The body is at Chiromo Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
