• County targets to get 20 ICU beds.
• Official dispels fears that the county lacks experts to handle the machines.
Kilifi county has procured seven ventilators and four more Intensive Care Unit beds.
The county now has 10 ICU beds.
Medical Services chief officer Bilal Mazoya on Sunday said the ICU beds and ventilators will be installed at the Jibana and Mbudzi covid-19 isolation centres.
Speaking after receiving the equipment at the Kilifi County Hospital, Mazoya said already, four beds have been installed at the Jibana isolation centre while two are at Mbudzi.
“This equipment was budgeted for and procured by the county government. Our target is 20 ICU beds and ventilators in our two isolation centres. We have procured the latest ventilators and they are vital in supporting covid-19 patients who will be in critical condition,” the official said.
He said so far, no patient is admitted in any of the isolation centres.
He dispelled fears that the county lacks experts to handle the machines.
“We have trained medical personnel whom we have already deployed to the isolation centres. These staff can handle the machines without any challenges. We are well prepared."
Mazoya further said the county has written to several organisations sourcing for support to get more equipment to supplement the efforts by the county.
“Many companies have shown interest in supporting us but we have not received any equipment from donors. We have, however, received supplies like sanitiser, soaps, masks, water tanks and water jerricans,” he said.
