Standard gauge railway records 4.2 million users since launch

Over 4.2 million passengers have so far been transported through standard gauge railway, Afri star railway operation company has said.

The company in its 1000 days of SGR operations and safety said approximately 750,000 TEUs have so far been transported.

The company says it had implemented 267 policies, rules and regulations as per December 31 last year.

 

To ensure passengers are sensitized on fostering safety culture while on board trains, the company says, safety notices have been put inside the trains and train crew are always around.

The company says as, at February 24, safety specialists had inspected the entire SGR operations network 269 times.

Transport CS James Macharia as well as Kenya Railways MD Philip Mainga kept off the event which was held at Syokimau station.

Afri Star railway operating company deputy general manager Sammy Gachuhi said in the last 1000 days, there has been no injuries or loss of lives.

"We have ensured that operations run smoothly by providing an adequate workforce. The workforce has all times provided continuous maintenance to locomotives, wagons, coaches and the track, " he said.

The multi-billion infrastructure started construction three years ago and has helped in transportation immensely.
