Retired AIC presiding Bishop Silas Yego presided over the funeral service for the late President Daniel Moi held at Nyayo Stadium on Tuesday.

Yego was Mzee Moi's pastor and spiritual leader.

He said he would let Mzee Moi preach to the attendees, rather than him leading the service.

"You may wonder how a dead person can preach, but I will use some of the verses close to Moi," he said.

He eulogised Moi as a generous man and urged Kenyans to emulate his character of humility.

He describe Moi as a friend, mentor and father.

"He has been very close to me for over 36 years. I can testify of his being a true Christian. Him and the Bible were inseparable," Yego said.

Yego said Mzee Moi was not afraid of death.

He said Mzee Moi often quoted 1 Chronicles 29:15-17: "For we be pilgrims and comelings before thee, as all our fathers were; our days be as (a) shadow on the earth, and there is no tarrying."

Yego said Mzee Moi had several scriptures at his fingertips and would often preach the gospel, urging people to get saved wherever he went.

He said Mzee Moi often said more people getting saved would make heaven happy.

Yego quoted Luke 15: 7: "I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."

"He was not ashamed of his faith," he said.

Yego also said Mzee Moi's favourite verse in Christian life was Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
