Senate, county assemblies to hold special sittings to honour Moi

Senate will hold a special sitting on Monday, to honour retired President Daniel arap Moi.

In a special gazette notice, Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka announced that the special sitting will commence at 2.30 p.m. at the Senate Chamber, Main Parliament Buildings, Nairobi. 

“The business to be transacted at the sitting shall be consideration of a motion regarding the Presidential Proclamation of 4th February 2020 following the demise of the Second President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Daniel Torotich arap Moi, C.G.H,” Lusaka announced through a Kenya Gazette Notice No. 970. 

Nairobi County Assembly will also hold a special sitting on the same day in honour of the retired president. 

“It is notified for the information of the members of the Nairobi County Assembly and the general public that there will be a special sitting on Monday, 10th February 2020, to eulogise the former Head of State President Daniel Torotich arap Moi and adjourn till Tuesday, 18th February 2020,” Speaker Beatrice Elachi said through a Gazette Notice No. 974. 

Similarly, Marsabit MCAs will convene on February 13 for a special sitting during which Governor Ali Roba will issue the annual state of the County address. 

In light of the public holiday on Tuesday, Kericho and Nyandarua have postponed their opening sessions to  Thursday, February 13, 2020. 

“The official opening of the Fourth Session of the Second Assembly to be held on Tuesday, 11th February, 2020 at the County Assembly Chambers Ol Kalou pursuant to Standing Orders 28 is revoked,” Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker James Ndegwa announced through a Gazette Notice No. 971. 

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale was the first to call for a special sitting of legislators to mourn Moi.
