• Muhoroni Deputy Commissioner said the three disappeared immediately the 2019 KCPE results were released.
• Two of the girls were found following an operation by the police and area chiefs.
Two of three Muhoroni (Kisumu) girls married off by their parents have been rescued and taken to school.
The police are yet to locate the third in Kericho county where she was taken after the illegal marriage.
All the girls were candidates in last year's KCPE examination, Muhoroni Deputy Commissioner Erick Wanyonyi said yesterday. They were married off soon after the KCPE results were released.
One of the girls sat her KCPE exam at Siwoti Primary School and scored 178 marks. Her father married her off to Edwin Kiprono (24), who was arraigned and remanded.
“We managed to arrest them at the peak of their wedding and taken to Koru police station,” Wanyonyi said.
The minor was taken to Kisumu Children Remand home for counselling before she resumes her studies.
The other girl scored 268 marks at Kadiege Primary School. She was taken to Kadiege Secondary School after her rescue.
The yet-to-be-found girl had 171 marks.
It was not clear what action was taken against the parents.
Wanyonyi said the government is determined in the enforcement of the 100 per cent transition policy from primary to secondary school.
He warned parents who married off their children of arrest and prosecution. “Every child has a right to education and those derailing that will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.
“All the children who sat KCPE must be admitted to Form One as directed by the national government,” the DCC said.
He also warned men against preying on young girls.
Kisumu county commissioner Susan Waweru told parents to ensure all children who sat KCPE last year were joined Form One.
