The weatherman has said the country will experience heavy rainfall between Thursday and Monday.

In the latest weather forecast, Met Department director Stella Aura said rainfall of more than 20mm in 24hrs is expected from Thursday in parts of Nairobi, Central and Southwest.

The rainfall will then spread to Western, Southeastern, Coast and Northeastern regions on Friday.

It is expected to intensify to more than 30mm in 24 hours from Saturday to Monday in Nairobi, Coast, Southeast, Central, Western and parts of the Northeastern region," reads part of a statement to newsrooms.

Aura said the coverage and intensity is expected to reduce over Southeastern, Northeastern and Coast from January 28.

"However, within same period of January 28 and 29, Western and Central Rift Valley regions will receive more than 40mm of rainfall but is projected to reduce as from January 30 over most parts of the country," the forecast states.

The department marks Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Murang'a, Embu, Kiruinyaga, Tharaka Nithi, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Taita Taveta, Busia, Kisii and Nyamira as areas of concern.

Other areas include Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru, Baringo, Samburu, West Pokot, Vihiga, Migori, Nandi, Trans Nzioa, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya, Kakamega, Nakuru, Isiolo, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, parts of Tana River and Kajiado.

"Residents in all the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for potential floods. They are advised to avoid driving through or walking in moving water or open fields and not shelter under trees or grilled windows to minimise exposure to lightning strikes," Aura said.
