University of Nairobi students leaders have expressed their support for the appointment of Isaac Mbeche as the acting Vice Chancellor.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, the students pulled support for Education CS George Magoha's move to revoke the appointment of Stephen Kiama as the university boss.

Byron Ochieng' Main Campus Secretary General of the student's association said that Magoha should proceed with investigation as he had earlier planned.

"Earlier there had been claims that there was mischief in the process of Vice Chancellor appointment. We want to say that this time round that matter must be investigated as called upon by the Education CS,” he said.

Chelse Mbogo, finance secretary UNSA, said students will not allow anyone to use the Vice Chancellor position for selfish reasons.

"We won't allow jokers to massacre that position," she said.

Magoha on Saturday  revoked the appointment of  Kiama as the  Vice-Chancellor of saying a substantive VC will be appointed after the completion consultative meetings.

He noted that Kiama will continue dispensing his duties as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Human Resource and Administration at the university.

Instead, the CS appointed Deputy VC Isaac Mbeche to act as the new VC pending consultation.

Kiama was to take over from Mbeche who had been acting after Peter Mbithi was sent on terminal leave in June last year.

Kiama has since insisted that not back out as Vice Chancellor despite the revocation.

He has warned stakeholders from entering into a contract with any other person apart from him.

"This is to inform all stakeholders and collaborators that any person or institution entering into a contract with any other person other than the legally appointed Vice Chancellor purporting to represent the university does so at their own peril ..." he said.

In a notice published in one of the local dailies on Sunday, Kiama said the university will not honor or be held liable for such commitments.
