• Body was found lying in the bed with her clothes torn but no noticeable injuries
• Police blame family for delaying to report the incident after discovery
Police in Machakos are looking for suspects who gang-raped and killed a 94-year-old woman on Tuesday night in Kivaani location, Kangundo.
Tabitha Mwikali who lived alone is said to have been raped by unknown people who strangled her to death.
Her daughters-in-law visited her house after the granny failed to wake up in the morning.
Kangundo OCPD Benjamin Ong'ombe said the family had to pass one of their children through the window to open the door.
"The woman lives alone and her family had to check up on her since she didn't wake up. They found her body laying in bed," he said.
Ong'ombe said the body was found lying with the woman's clothes torn but had no noticeable injuries apart from the neck.
He, however, said the family had earlier claimed the body was swollen around the neck, which indicated that she might have been strangled to death.
Ong'ombe who condemned the heinous act and blamed the family for delaying to report the incident to police after finding out.
"The incident happened on Tuesday night but they reported to the OCS on Wednesday night, so if they had reported a bit earlier we would already have begun the investigations", Ong'ombe said.
