Police officers in Kimilili constituency Bungoma County are investigating an incident in which a middle-aged woman from Kamusinde Yembe village died mysteriously.

Edina Nafula a mother of nine is alleged to have been killed by her neighbour whom she previously had a

bitter exchange of words.

Albert Nyongesa, the deceased husband, said his wife who attends the same church with the neighbour, had received death threats from the suspect.

He said the suspect who has since gone missing, had been stealing their chicken.

Nyongesa also said the woman had been waiting

He said that the woman had also been waiting for his children by the roadside as they headed to the river to fetch water and beating them up.

The matter had been reported to the area village elder.

The village elder had asked the woman to pay a fine of five thousand to Nafula which she complied.

She paid the money to the deceased and allegedly told her that before the week was over, she "will be no more".

True to her threat, Nafula died four days later on Tuesday morning.

Before she succumbed, a healthy Nafula had allegedly complained of lack

of energy in her body.

She was rushed on a motorcycle to a nearby dispensary where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Angry residents later marched to the suspect's house and burned it down with all the household

items.

They accused her of bewitching Nafula leading to her death.

Kimilili acting OCPD Harrison Njuguna said that police are probing the incident.

Njuguna said that they are pursuing leads that will lead to the arrest of the suspect whom he said is reported to be hiding in the neighbouring county of Trans Nzoia.

The police boss asked residents to remain calm and give police information on the whereabouts of the suspect.

Njuguna said police will also arrest those who burned the suspect's house.

Nafula's body was taken to Dreamland hospital morgue in Kimilili.
