The IEBC has set Wajir West constituency by-election on April, 25.

Chairman Wafula Chebukati in a gazette notice on Monday said Political Parties intending to participate must submit the names of their candidates and the date of the party primaries on or before February, 11.

Chebukati further said a public officer who intends to contest must resign from public office within seven (7) days of the declaration of the vacancy which in this case is February, 1.

"Following the declaration of vacancy in the office of Member of the National Assembly for Wajir West Constituency vide a letter from the National Assembly Speaker received on Tuesday, 29th January 2019, there shall be a by-election for Wajir West Constituency on Thursday, 25th April 2019," Chebukati said in the Gazette notice.

He added, "The Commission shall publish, in the Gazette, the names of the persons contesting in a party primary and the date of the party primary within seven days of receipt of the names of the candidates".

The chairman said candidates intending to participate in the by-elections as independent candidates should not have been members of any political party at least three (3) months immediately before the date of the by-election.

"The Commission shall publish in the Gazette, the names and symbols of persons intending to contest in the election as independent candidates at least fourteen (14) days before the nomination day," he said.

The seat fell vacant after two weeks after the Supreme Court nullified the election of Mohamed Kolosh.

The electoral body will also conduct by-elections in Ugenya and Embakasi South Constituencies on February 5.
