A man died on Wednesday night after his killers dragged him on the tarmac along the Wote-Machakos road.

Makueni police commander Joseph Napeiyan said the suspects pushed the deceased out of a moving car but he was trapped by the seat belt and dragged for about 200m.

"His skin and flesh had peeled off and also the body had deep cuts," Napeiyan told the Star during an interview in his office in Wote town.

The defaced body was found hanging from the car that was abandoned near Kilala shopping centre shortly after 8 pm.

One suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing.

Napeiyan said the suspect, who had cuts and blood stains,

was arrested at Ukia Junction along the same road on Thursday morning.

He was dressed only in trousers.

"This indeed was brutal and the motive was just to kill, we have arrested one suspect and recovered three mobile phones.

"We will use all the items we have collected from the scene including gloves to pursue the other suspects."

The vehicle has been towed to Makueni police station where the suspect is locked up.

According to boda boda riders at Itangini shopping centre, the deceased was heard screaming for help as he drove past them towards Machakos direction with one leg outside.

"This prompted us to chase the car but the suspects escaped when the vehicle veered off the road and landed into a ditch," said Muendo Mutiso, a boda boda

rider.

A man from a nearby home reported that he had a scuffle with a stranger who appeared to be the arrested suspect.

"I hit a

stranger on the head after he refused to identify himself, he ran and disappeared into the shamba bleeding profusely," said the man.

When the suspect was asked what had happened to him, he said he had been attacked by sand harvesters. However, the police said the area had no sand harvesters.
