More than 600 police officers deployed to provide security during the East Africa Community Jua Kali exhibition in Eldoret in December last year are yet to be paid their
allowances amounting to over Sh10 million.
The officers have threatened to boycott such assignments in future.
The ten-day exhibition took place between December 7 and 18 at the Eldoret Sports Club grounds.
DP William Ruto was the chief guest during the opening of the event.
Each of the officers was to be paid allowances amounting to Sh1,800 per day.
"EAC promised to pay us immediately after the event. We did our work and all others who offered services have been paid except us. We need to be told if the money was diverted to some individuals," one of the aggrieved officers said.
Uasin Gishu Police Commander Augustus Nthumbi said he has heard about the complaint but maintained the matter was beyond him.
Nthumbi asked journalists to talk to the Uasin Gishu commissioner Abdi Hassan who is the county security chairman.
However, Hassan said he was out of office and would comment on the matter when back.
“If there is such an issue then I will talk to relevant authorities to understand what is happening before I can give my side of the matter”, said Hassan.
