President Uhuru Kenyatta and the AU special envoy Raila Odinga have sent congratulatory messages to DRC's president elect Felix Tshisekedi.

The two further commended President Joseph Kabila for presiding over the peaceful transition.

While Uhuru said victory Tshisekedi's victory is a portrayal of the confidence of the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in his ideals, leadership and vision for the future, Raila said hailed the transition as a first since DR Congo's independence.

"Congratulations President-elect Tshisekedi on your victory in the recent General Elections. Your victory is a portrayal of the confidence of the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in his ideals, leadership and vision for the future," Uhuru said on his twitter.

He added, "I look forward to working closely with you to strengthen and deepen the long-standing cordial relations between our two countries and peoples".

Raila in his message said, "Congo's success is Africa's success. Long live Africa".

The dust of the DRC election is yet to settle in the wake of Opposition leader Martin Fayulu's claim to the win. He declared himself President-elect.

But Raila said the people of DRC spoke during the December 30 election in voting for Tsishekedi.

" Their choices were affirmed by the relevant institutions namely the Electoral Commission and the Constitutional Court."

Raila opposed President Uhuru Kenyatta's election but sought to reach a deal with the latter.

The peace deal, now famed as the handshake, saw end to hostilities which followed the 2017 presidential elections.
