The Vihiga county assembly exaggerated the cost of work on their premises by Sh15,924,675. The money was paid to a local contractor for services not rendered, Auditor General Edward Ouko says in his latest report.

The 2016-17 audit report shows that the assembly engaged the contractor to undertake landscaping, cabro works and a car park project at the assembly premises for Sh52,754,768.

Evaluation of specific items in the bills of quantities revealed huge discrepancies in the works certified and paid for versus those undertaken as required. This resulted in a variance of Sh15, 924, 675, representing works certified not done, the report shows.
