Former Nairobi Education executive Janet Ouko has lifted the lid on the operations at City Hall while explaining why she left Governor Mike Sonko's government.
The CEC who resigned on Monday said she is ready to face Sonko head on and challenge him to explain the crimes he has accused her of committing at the docket.
Ouko said she resigned because she could not continue to work in an environment filled with threats, intimidation and blackmail.
"Everyday you are being threatened to be fired, arrested or taken to court. I just couldn’t work under that kind of environment. The rest of the CECs who are there are experiencing the same but are afraid," she told the Star.
Later speaking to KTN News, Ouko said that Sonko has low self-esteem and should allow people to decide when to leave office without being intimidated.
"Akuwe tu mature... tunadeal na mtu ambaye
self esteem yake iko chini kabisa... hii si ndoa hii ni kazi... (He should act maturely... we are dealing with someone with a low self esteem... this is not a marriage but work)," Ouko said.
This was a sharp contrast from her statement on Tuesday when she said she had a good relationship with the governor and was resigning to pursue other interests.
Sonko on Wednesday accused Ouko of misusing bursary funds meant for needy Nairobi students.
However, Ouko refuted the claims and questioned why Sonko never made any steps to arrest her before she resigned.
"If I have been stealing bursary money, as the governor in office, why didn’t he take the responsibility of ordering for my arrest?" Ouko asked.
She further said that Sonko should stop using his position to mistreat and intimidate people.
"It is really embarrassing seeing the governor misuse the power granted to him by Nairobians so as to mistreat those under his leadership," Ouko said.
The former executive said she is not afraid of speaking the truth as to why she willingly resigned despite having a renewed contract.
Ouko told Sonko to change his leadership style and focus on service delivery.
