Three people on Wednesday denied possessing wildlife trophy in a Kajiado court.
Simon Kangethe Mukiri, Boniface Waigwa Wanjiru and Juma Lekupe pleaded not guilty before chief magistrate Becky Cheloti.
They told the court they did not know the wildlife trophies were in their car.
The charge sheet states the trophies were impounded on January 8 when the police stopped the suspects in Kitengela town and searched their vehicle.
Four elephant tusks weighing 50 kgs with an estimated street value of Sh5 million were found.
The suspects pleaded with the court to reduce their bail terms.
However, the magistrate declined saying,
the matter is grave and the bail terms could not be waived.
“The matter at hand is of grave consequences and, therefore, the issued bail term of Sh5 million as personal bail or a bond of Sh 2 million will still be imposed upon you,” Cheloti ruled.
The prosecution was directed to supply the defence with the required materials.
The magistrate ordered the suspects to be remanded at Kitengela police station until January 23 when the case will be mentioned.
The full hearing is scheduled for January 31.
