Lack of Unique Personal Identifiers for some students seeking Form One admission is giving parents sleepless nights.

Most primary schools did not register their students through the National Education Management Information System (Nemis) for them to get UPI numbers.

The number enables the government to fund secondary education in national, county and extra-county schools.

The principal of St Cecilia Girls High School in Bungoma Beatrice Lyambila said admission is affected by lack of the numbers.

"Some parents are coming with admission letters but without the UPI numbers for their children. They are forced to call their children’s former primary schools where they sat KCPE. However, some were not fortunate to find them," she said at a press conference on Tuesday.

She advised parents to get the school password and user name, and thereafter the UPI number is downloaded.
