A Homa Bay church leader has been charged with allegedly defiling a Form 2 student in Homa Bay Town constituency.

Tobias Koga was arraigned on Thursday and accused that on diverse dates between December 26 last year and July 26 he allegedly defiled a 17-year-old girl.

The former SDA church elder was also accused of committing an indecent act with the minor.

Koga, however, denied the charges before Homa Bay senior resident magistrate Joy Wesonga.

He asked the court to release him on grounds that he has a young family to look after.

Wesonga released him on Sh100,000 bond and ordered for the case to be heard on October 22.

Homa Bay police arrested the clergyman on Thursday morning after they got a tip-off from members of the public.

They found Koga with the girl inside a room within the village. She allegedly said she has been sexually assaulted and was wooed with money to keep the matter secret.

"There was a time he gave the girl Sh500 before sleeping with her,” Homa Bay OCS Zamdan Mkondo said.

The minor was taken to the hospital for medical examination and was later handed to her parents. She recorded a statement with the police.
