The central region is leading with the highest number of arrests for drug and substance abuse.
In a report by the National Police Service, the region led with a total of 1,473 people arrested over the offence.
This is out of a whopping 3,432 people who were arrested across the country during the year 2018.
In the report of out of the 3,432 people, 3,407 arrests involved Kenyans while 25 arrests were foreigners.
The manual report on crime statistics further revealed that 3, 131 cases involved possession, 224 involved trafficking while 20 cases involved cultivating.
Police netted a total of 1451 sachets, 9 tabs, 4466 kilograms, 83,071 rolls, 10,804plants, 5,823 brooms, 3,568 stones and 3,231 sticks of Cannabis sativa (bhang)and arrested 3,353 suspects out of whom 20 were foreigners.
With regards to Central, the report indicate out of the arrests made, 1,473 were locals while one arrest involved a foreigner.
From the region, 935 sachets, 549 kilograms, 36961 rolls, 84 plants, 1 broom and 135 stones netted were nabbed.
Rift Valley was second with 447 people arrested.
Nine sachets, 9 tabs, 2,388 kilograms, 17,801 rolls, 510 plants, 523 brooms and 31 stones were netted from the region.
Police had also indicated that the Rift Valley region topped with the highest number of criminal activities.
The report also pointed illicit brews as the cause of negative health to Kenyan youth which they say has affected their productivity.
Some of the brews like Simba Waragi which finds its way into the country from across the borders were among illicit brews reported.
"During the period under review, police netted a total of 194,341.6 liters of illicit brew as compared 175,997 liters netted in 2017," read part of the report.
This id despite many anti-alcoholic campaigns that have been conducted especially in the central region.
But the report said to address the issue of drug abuse menace the police are mapping hotspots and common routes of these substances in the country.
Police are also creating better synergy between the DCI office and government chemist and adoption of the follow the money approach to investigations and prosecutions.
Police said a multi-agency approach has been initiated to deal with this threat to the country’s workforce and this involves carrying out of raids in collaboration with the government administrative officers.
