A woman has moved to court seeking protection from her son whom she claimed would kill her if the court does not help.

Joan Awour, a widow, said Ian Onyango who is a student at the Technical University of Kenya has been threatening to harm her until she took him to Mathari Hospital for mental check-up a few months ago.

"He has been taking illegal drugs that are harmful to his health. I took him to Mathari and after some time he stopped taking the drugs the hospital gave him," she told Makadara senior principal magistrate Angelo Kithinji on Tuesday.

She added that she had paid fees at the university but Onyango refused to attend.

Onyango, who kept smiling in court, said he would go to school on condition that his mother apologised to him for making him sleep on the floor in police custody.

“If I have wronged my mother. Let her forgive me but she should also apologise to me,” he told the court.

Kithinji directed that Onyango be taken to Mathari Hospital for medication.

He was charged with causing a disturbance and threatening to beat his mother on September 2 at Kaloleni estate.

The court also heard that he called his mother a prostitute and a stupid woman and threatened to kill her, which breached her peace.

The case will be mentioned on September 23.
