Terminal 1C closed after night fire at JKIA

Terminal 1C at JKIA has been temporarily closed following a night fire caused by a baggage belt system malfunction.

Kenya Airports Authority said the terminal has been cordoned off and it’s flight operations moved to Terminal 1B.

Via Twitter on Thursday, KAA said the fire begun at 11:45 pm on Wednesday adding that no injuries were reported during the incident.

"We had a fire incident at JKIA Terminal 1C’s Check-inn counters seven and eight caused by a baggage belt system malfunction," they said.

"All passengers and staff at the terminal were evacuated safely and the fire contained by the airport’s fire team."
