Hellen Obiri on Saturday displayed an outstanding performance in the ongoing World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark to clinch a gold medal for Kenya.
Obiri who has made history to become the first female athlete to win both the indoor, outdoor and cross-country races dominated 80 percent of the race.
The World 5,000m champion timed 36:14 to fed off competition from Ethiopian duo of Dera Dida (36:16) who came in second to scoop the silver medal in the senior women 10km race.
Dida was followed closely by her country mate Letesenbet Gidey who clinched the bronze medal.
Earlier on, Beatrice Chebet struck Kenya's first gold medal after winning the women's under 20 6km race.
Chebet was controversially placed third in the initial result by IAAF officials but photo finish confirmed she was the better of the triumvirate that also had two Ethiopians, Alemitu Tariku and Tsigie Gebreselama who took silver and bronze respectively.
The trio were given identical times of 20:50.
Athletics Kenya Youth Committee Barnaba Korir, who was part of the Kenyan delegation who made the appeal said they could not allow Kenyan’s victory stolen as they watch.
Their men counterparts however suffered a humiliating defeat after Ethiopia’s Milkesa Mengesha locked in Gold.
Kenya’s Leonard Bett come in fourth position.
