Kenyan men are to blame for the failed  Two-Thirds Gender Rule Bill, according to National Gender and Equality Commission chairperson Joyce Mutinda.

Mutinda said she will continue lobbying for the bill. She spoke yesterday during the swearing-in of the commission's new secretary Betty Nyabuto at the Supreme Court.

She called on Kenyan leaders to follow the example of Rwanda and Ethiopia which have 50 per cent of their Cabinet slots reserved for women.

She at the same time asked Parliament to allocate more funds to the commission as it worked to ensure that boys and girls had equal rights.

“We have done a study on the boy child and found that claims that they have been forgotten are not entirely true. In education, there is a balance for both the boy child and girl child. However, in some areas the girl child is still suffering. But we will focus on both," Mutinda said.

Chief Justice David Maraga promised to support Nyabuto in her job.
