Attorney General Paul Kihara has asked Lamu residents to stop hiding drug dealers.

He said many youths are hooked on drugs.

Kihara spoke on Saturday when he joined DPP Noordin Haji on a tour of Lamu, Hindi and Mpeketoni towns during the close of the Lamu Service Week.

The event was organised by the DPPs office.

Kihara said many youths abuse hard drugs, which has turned them into zombies.

Kihara urged residents to work with the police and provide information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of drug dealers.

“It's clear that Lamu has a problem with drugs. I have been to many places here and I must say drugs have done too much damage to our youth. People are now zombies," he said.

"People have been reduced to nothing. Why should we allow such things to happen? I know people know those behind the drugs business. Why can't you point them out, unless you like what's happening to your children? Help police deal with this.”

Kihara said the government will not leave any stone unturned in its bid to rid Lamu and the rest of the country of drugs.

He asked local administrators to lead in the war on narcotics and urged wananchi to cooperate.

“You have the police and administration departments with you. Please cooperate with them and if they are the ones collaborating with the peddlers, let us know so we take them out of here and bring others who can work to end the vice,” Kihara said.

The AG's sentiments came just days after Interior CS Fred Matiang’i toured Lamu and announced a fresh war on drug dealers.

The CS warned police officers who collaborate with drug peddlers, saying their days are numbered.

He said almost half of a generation has been destroyed by drugs. The CS also warned residents against covering up for drug lords.
