Dr Ali Hamisi Juma, the medic who died under unclear circumstances in Cuba, was buried in Vijiweni village, Likoni constituency, on Friday

Juma, 30, died while in a two-year exchange programme in Cuba's capital, Havana.

He is a younger brother of Likoni MP Mishi Mboko.

His body was found on Sunday. He is believed to have committed suicide, but family members are yet to make public the reason behind his sudden demise.

The Kenya Airways flight carrying his remains landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, a few minutes to 7am.

The body was then transferred to Mombasa. It was received at the Moi International Airport at 9am.

The body was taken to Coast Provincial General Hospital, where the family conducted a private autopsy.

The family has not yet commented on the postmortem.

At the burial site, emotions ran high. Special Islamic prayers were conducted at Ali-Hudaa Mosque in Shika Adabu.

Those who attended the burial were Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi and Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga MP), among other Coast MPs and political leaders.

Juma is survived by an eight-month-old son and a widow.

Before his death, Juma is said to have persistently complained of poor working conditions and had requested to come back to Kenya.

He wanted to come back and attend to his son, who has been sick since December, but the government delayed the processing of his papers.

It is reported that Juma fell into depression, which probably led to him taking away his life.

Family members and the government have warned the public against speculating over his death.

On Thursday, Kurichwa Hamisi Juma, an elder brother of the deceased, told the Star they will wait for the pathologist's report before making a conclusion.
