Detectives will continue detaining a businessman who allegedly impersonated Transport PS Julius Korir and other senior government officials with the intention to defraud.

Kiambu senior principal magistrate Stella Atambo yesterday ordered David Kiplangat be held at the Gigiri police station for another five days. This followed an application by investigating officer Samson Owaga.

The court heard that the suspect registered four other Sim cards. He allegedly used the line registered in the PS's name to call MPs and governors, among other state officers.

Owaga said the 14 days they had earlier been granted expired before they completed investigations.

The order for the 14 days was issued by chief magistrate Patricia Gichohi on March 7. The suspect was arrested on March 5 by an officer from the DCI headquarters. Owaga took charge of the probe from him.

Yesterday, Owaga said he needed more time because of the document suspected to have been used in committing the crime. They include several SMS card numbers, ATM cards, and national identity cards.
