Cotu affiliate unions have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve his entire Cabinet due to laxity in dealing with the ongoing drought.

Addressing the media on Thursday, the unions said the current blame game will not solve the situation.

“There are no planners in government. They are either looting or sleeping. We are calling on President Kenyatta,  if he cares for Kenyans, let him dissolve the Cabinet and form a fresh one that can help him,” they said.

The unions blame the government for failure to drill water that was discovered six years ago in the North.

In 2013, large underground water reserves were found in Turkana. The discoveries were made by the natural resources exploration firm, Radar Technologies International, during the course of a survey of groundwater conducted for the Kenyan government.

The reserves could serve more than two million people in northern Kenya

The unions said it is shameful for Kenyans to die of hunger despite hefty budgetary allocations yearly.

The unions spoke a day after the Council of Governors called for proper engagement with the national government to find a long-term solution to drought.

CoG chairman Wycliffe Oparanya said a long-term solution will build community resilience to climate change.

The government has insisted no one has died due to drought despite media reports that at least 20 people have so far succumbed to hunger.
