A Kiambu court on Monday ordered a taxi driver linked to the murder of Mildred Odira report to DCI's office every Friday at Kasarani police station.

Chief magistrate Patricia Gichohi issued the order after investigating officer Charles Musyimi said they needed three more weeks to obtain DNA results from the Government Chemist.

Mildred's internal organs were destroyed by blunt force. She suffered a two-centimetre hole in her forehead, possibly inflicted by a hammer. There was no sign she had been involved in a road accident.

On February 22, the magistrate released suspect David Ochieng on Sh200,000 bail, pending completion of the investigation. At the time, she had ordered him to report to the investigating officer at Kasarani three days a week, until the detectives obtain DNA results. The results will help investigators to decide whether or not to charge the suspect with the murder of Mildred, 32.

After the investigating officer asked for more time on Monday, the magistrate ordered Ochieng to report to detectives at Kasarani every Friday until April 9, when the matter will be mentioned.

Gichohi also ordered police to release the suspect’s vehicle until the investigation is over.  The suspect was warned not to change the colour of the vehicle or disposal of it. He was told to produce the vehicle to police whenever required.

The magistrate told the suspect he will forfeit Sh200,000 bail if he violates court orders

Detectives say Mildred was a switchboard operator with Foresight Company based at Nation Centre and was last seen with the taxi driver Ochieng. She disappeared in early February from her Kariobangi South residence.

Preliminary investigations indicated that security guards had called a taxi to take her to Ruaraka’s Uhai Neema Hospital after she fell ill at night. The driver told the family he left Mildred at Ruaraka Uhai Neema Hospital.

Mildred’s sister said they found out she was not home after her son went to her house  Kariobangi South.

A postmortem report last month showed Mildred suffered severe injuries to the torso. Government pathologist Johansen Oduor said Mildred died from an injury inflicted by a blunt object, possibly a hammer. It left a hole in her forehead. Her internal organs were destroyed. There were no injuries to show she was involved in an accident.
