DCI detectives have arrested nine suspects following a spate of violence and gang rape at Maseno University.

The DCI on Monday released the names of the gang that has been terrorising the varsity students.

They are Patrick Okanda, Peter Amango Sande, Geoffrey Okiya Mutunga, Obed Panyako, Peter Obed, David Ndegu, Samuel Kuya, Stephen Oloo and Nahashon Arena.

The detectives also confiscated stolen chairs, bhang, pangas and claw bars from the suspects.

Other gang members escaped during the raid and are being pursued by police.

The suspects are currently in lawful custody and are expected to be arraigned in court soon.

In November last year, Maseno University students took to the streets after their colleague was detained as he was reporting an alleged attack at their institution.

The gang members were believed to be staying around the school compound.

In July last year, in yet another violent incident, a gang of three members shot two students at the university.

The students were among the group of people who had gone to watch World Cup Finals.

The gang also robbed them off their phones and fled from the scene.
