• The DP assured residents that the construction of Arror and Kimwarer dams in the region would on as planned by the government.
• Governor Tolgos has openly supported the ongoing DCI probe into the scandal but also wants the dams completed.
The Sh21 billion dams scandal probe took centre stage as Deputy President William Ruto visited Elgeyo Marakwet county on Saturday.
The DP assured residents that the construction of Arror and Kimwarer dams in the region would on as planned by the government.
He told locals that the dams were among more than 55 others planned by the government and he told off those he said were undermining the Jubilee Government development plans.
“We will ensure the dams are developed to completion as part of the Jubilee agenda for development in this region,” Ruto said.
Despite the assurance, Ruto watched as his allies castigated area Governor Alex Tolgos who was present.
Tolgos has openly supported the ongoing DCI probe into the scandal but also wants the dams completed.
The governor last week apologised to President Uhuru Kenyatta after five MPs from his county attacked the Head of State over what they termed as targetting DP Ruto using the dams probe.
Tolgos told off the MPs saying the projects should not be politicised.
During Ruto’s visit at Sambirir just a few kilometres from Arror Dam, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and other MPs including Caleb Kostany (Soy), Hillary Kosgey (Kipkelion), Nelson Koech (Belgut) and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot accused Tolgos of failing to understand what was happening in the dams probe.
Other MPs in attendance included Bowen Kangogo of Marakwet East and William Kisang of Marakwet West
There were murmurs from the crowd in disapproval as the Ruto allies criticized Tolgos who watched quietly from where he was seated near the DP.
When he stood to speak Tolgos ignored comments by the MPs and said the dams should be completed despite the ongoing probe.
He, however, asked Murkomen to be visiting the county instead of most of the time speaking about the county while in Nairobi.
When Murkomen took the stage, he attacked the governor asking him to concentrate on Elgeyo Marakwet politics with MCAs and not matters in Nairobi.
