Three people were killed following renewed clashes between Borana and Gabra at Haro Giresa in Saku constituency.
Several others also sustained gunshot wounds in the Wednesday evening clashes.
The injured were taken for treatment at the Marsabit General Hospital.
Security officers have been sent to the area to contain the situation.
Marsabit OCPD Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed the incident and called on residents to remain calm as security personnel handle the situation.
Interfaith Council chairman Mohamednur Kuli appealed to the community to embrace peace noting that only peaceful coexistence will bring development in the area.
The tension between the two communities have long persisted and claimed many lives in the recent past.
