Seven men accused of impersonating President Uhuru Kenyatta have been detained at Muthaiga police station.

They are expected to plead to conspiracy to defraud charges tomorrow.

Earlier, the Director of Public Prosecutions lost a bid to have the men detained for ten days pending investigations.

In dismissing the application, Magistrate Peter Ooko directed the seven be arraigned before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayo for the alleged offence's failure to which they will stand discharged.

Joseph Waswa, Duncan Muchai, Isaac Wajekeche, William Simiyu, David Luganya, Gilbert Kirunja and Anthony Wafula are being investigated over forgery, conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretences involving huge sums of money and senior state house officials.

The DPP wanted the seven detained for 10 days due to the complexity of the investigations.

But the Magistrate said there are no compelling reasons to have them held.

"I find no merit in this application thus dismiss it,"
