The Kenya Urban Roads Authority has lagged behind in completing the Outering Road even after seeking a three-month extension

in July. But now the work is underway again.
Kura corporate communication officer John Cheboi said it is now building footbridges and improving service roads and bus bays. “After installing lights we realised there was room to expand the service lane and pedestrian footpaths, which will reduce traffic build-up,”

he told the Star yesterday.
Cheboi said the road was 94 per cent complete with installation of footbridges in progress. The authority has started work on a footbridge

just next to Mutindwa Market, which will connect pedestrians from Umoja One and Buruburu.
The aim is to have all 11 footbridges up and ensure pedestrians’ safety.
According to last month’s report by the National Transport and Safety Authority,

Mombasa Road is the county’s deadliest, followed by Waiyaiki Way.
Deaths along Outering Road have declined, which Kura attributed to road users becoming familiar with the road.
The Sh8.5 billion project was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta inJanuary 22, 2015, and is funded by the African Development Bank and the government. The road was supposed to be completed in September last year.
Kura assured residents that the 13km stretch from where Taj Mall stood on North Airport Road to General Service Unit headquarters in Ruaraka will soon be completed.
