Former Kilifi deputy governor Kennedy Kamto is dead.

Widow Fauzia Kamto told the Star three

hooded gunmen killed him at his Nyali residence, along Beach Road on Wednesday 3am.

"I don't know why my husband had to die," she said.

She said they forced their

way into the house and demanded that the lights to be put on.

Kamto was shot as the wife, his mother and the maid watched.

Fauzia said the thieves stole Sh6,000, her phone and other personal belongings.

The deceased's elder sister, Chiku Kamto, said this was the third time that gunmen pursued her brother.

"He knew he was being pursued," Chiku said.

Kamto unsuccessfully vied for Kilifi Governor during the last General Election.

Human rights group Muhuri said security in Mombasa has deteriorated.

"We are giving the government seven days to find the killers," Muhuri response officer Francis Auma said.

Kwale senator Issa Juma mourned Kamto as a close friend who lived in peace with everyone.

The body was taken to Coast General Hospital mortuary.
