Two missing after floodwaters sweep away car in Samburu East

Rescuers are searching for two people who went missing after their vehicle was swept away in River Lengusaka, Samburu East subcounty.

The vehicle was swept away by floodwaters following heavy rains which pounded the region on Tuesday night.

The Toyota Hilux pick-up, belonging to a businesswoman

in Wamba town, was on its way from Meru town at the time of the accident.

The driver survived the accident with minor injuries after he managed to jump out of the car.

He is currently receiving treatment at Wamba Mission Hospital.

Samburu county Administration Police commander John Muiruri Karanja led the search.

"We have found a pair of shoes and some clothes. We are yet to find any person."

Area Red Cross coordinator Maurice Onyango said the agency would give more details as the search progresses.

The wreckage of the vehicle was spotted some metres away from the accident scene.
