One dead, tourists hospitalised after Kilifi car crash

One person was killed and four others hospitalised following an accident on Mombasa-Malindi road on Thursday.

The Coast Water worker died after the company's car crashed on a saloon car which was ferrying Italian tourists at Chumani, Kilifi county.

Kilifi North OCPD Njoroge Ngige said the driver of the car with tourists lost control of the vehicle and hit the oncoming Land Cruiser.

The driver of the Coast Water vehicle sustained injuries and is being treated at Kilifi county hospital. His passenger identified as William Liwali died.

The driver and the two Italian tourists were also admitted to the same

hospital.

Liwali worked as a support staff based at Baricho station.

Acting CWBS chief executive officer Stanslus Jira said the staff were heading to Mazeras to pick chlorine, a water disinfectant, at the time of the accident.

"We are sorry for the family. We urge drivers to be more keen during this festive season," Jira said.
