A police officer on Thursday pleaded not guilty to the murder of a man he caught with his supposed girlfriend.

Robert Otieno is accused of killing George Odhiambo, 37, by stabbing at Wiga village, Homa Bay Town constituency on November 20.

He denied the charge before High court judge Joseph Karanja.

The court was told that the suspect was armed with a pistol and a knife on the day he committed the offence.

Otieno, who is attached to Pangani police station, requested for a bond but his prayer was declined.

The prosecution led by Vallerie Ongeti argued that the suspect is dangerous since his gun is yet to be recovered.

"The suspect is a wanted man by residents in his village. He can harm people hence interfere with evidence should he get released."

"Members of the public are also angry with him and can injure him," Ongeti said.

Judge Karanja ordered the suspect remanded at Homa Bay GK prison in wait for the bail ruling on January 21, 2019.
