Light aircraft crashes near Malindi airport, pilot hospitalised

A trainee pilot narrowly escaped death after a light aircraft he was flying crashed near Malindi airport on Thursday.

The plane crashed on the roof of a house at Furunzi, a few metres from the runway. The pilot was alone.

The pilot was rushed to Malindi hospital in critical condition before being transferred to Mombasa for specialised treatment .

Hundreds of curious onlookers flocked to the scene. The aircraft was extensively damaged.

Police have taken up the matter with a view to establishing what caused the crash.
