The Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya says it will mentor top KCPE achievers wishing to pursue a career in the field.
On Tuesday, the lobby lauded top pupil countrywide Olive Mwea Wachira, who has said she wishes to join the profession.
PSK chair Dr Louis Machogu said the society will support both KCPE and KCSE candidates.
He spoke at Riara Primary School when a group of pharmacists went to congratulate Wachira who scored 453 marks out of the possible 500 marks. She shared the top position with Rawlings Odhiambo.
Machogu said the growing interest in
pharmacy will boost the government's Universal Health Coverage programme.
He said the sector will be streamlined to ensure Kenyans access the highest standards of healthcare.
Globally, the role of pharmacists has evolved along with health care needs. In addition to dispensing medications and ensuring patient safety, today’s pharmacists are taking a larger role as medical counsellors, educators and advocates.
