Kisumu Senator Fred Outa wants the county’s financial books probed on how some Sh5 billion was spent during the 2016/2017

financial year.

He said the money is reported to have been used to buy vehicles, but the transaction is

shrouded in secrecy.

Outa said the other audit query is over an unaccounted Sh1.5 billion in the book of accounts at the start of the 2017 financial year.

The senator told KNA in Kisumu that he also wants another expenditure of Sh1.3 billion probed.

Outa has requested Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji to look into the matter.

He also wants a separate inquiry on the controversial relocation of Kachok dumpsite that consumed Sh100 million and has been allocated another Sh200 million.

The former Nyando MP said he will speak more on the matter once the anti-graft agency makes its findings public.

At the same time, Outa asked governors from the sugar belt

to act swiftly and streamline the sector.

He dismissed a task force formed by Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri to look into the plight of farmers as a circus.

He said the task force favours private millers.

On Tuesday, Kiunjuri toured the sugar belt and reiterated the government's

commitment to revive debt-ridden factories.

He blamed the poor performance of factories on mismanagement and the illegal importation of cheap sugar.
